Maintaining a respectful distance from the bear was Luka’s intent, and it proved to be surprisingly effortless. Every time he inched closer, the animal ambled forward, maintaining the gap between them.
It dawned on Luka then that perhaps, in its own bearish way, the creature shared a similar apprehension. The bear, it seemed, might harbor just as much wariness of him as he did of it.
