Daniel blinked, his breath shallow. The memory of Shadow—small, fragile, looking up at him in trust—melted away, swallowed by the present. Snow still howled around him. The cold gnawed at his bones. However, standing before him was not the pup he had once known.
Shadow was a beast now. An alpha. His massive form loomed in the storm, muscles rippling beneath his thick fur, eyes piercing and golden. And he wasn’t alone. The pack flanked behind him, waiting. Watching. Daniel wasn’t sure if Shadow saw him as a friend….. or prey.
