She rushed over and looped the rope around the tree, pulling it taut and tying a triple knot. Satisfied it would hold, she called down, “James, I’ve secured the rope. Start handing up the creatures one by one. I’ll make sure they’re safe.”
James’s reply echoed from the well, “Got it! Here comes the first one!” Tina watched with bated breath as a small, furry creature emerged from the darkness, clutched gently in James’s hands. He had created a makeshift sling out of his jacket to carry them up. As James drew closer, Tina reached down and lifted the frightened animal to safety.
